What’s LIVE?

LIVE Midland is a project of the Midland Development Corporation to bring the focus of Economic Development back to the Central Business District and Downtown Midland.

The goal for the LIVE movement is to provide a catalyst for peripheral mixed-use developments including retail, dining and entertainment. Check back often on “What’s LIVE?” to get the latest news on ground-breaking projects coming to Downtown Midland.

Musings from Mike and the MDC

Economic development corporations have always prioritized workforce-related activities and recognized the significance of a skilled workforce. These efforts typically ebb and flow depending on the nature of local, state and national economies. In good times when jobs are plentiful, we involve ourselves in all the various efforts like training, recruitment and marketing our community to workforces in other areas. But, when our local economies slow down, we often place less emphasis on these activities as we see jobs disappear. The MDC has taken the approach that a steady consistent workforce program will serve our community much better in the long-run.

The MDC is one of the few economic development corporations in the state to dedicate a full-time position to workforce. Ms. Tracy Dau directs our workforce efforts and is responsible for all aspects of the workforce program which include working with our existing businesses on their needs and setting up and directing our workforce recruiting efforts. The MDC has established strong relationships with technical colleges, military bases, workforce boards and companies around the state and country. A comprehensive marketing plan is in place which includes the placement of billboards, advertisements in various military publications as well as newspaper ads in targeted geographic areas that have experienced high unemployment as a result of large corporate layoffs or closures.  
The website www.MakeMidlandHome.com serves both Midland employers and potential job seekers by allowing employers to link their recruitment page or list individual job openings on the site free of charge. Job seekers may download resumes and apply on line for positions found while viewing the site.  Employers and Job Seekers alike have found the site a great resource.
With the unveiling of the www.LiveMidlandTexas.com website a greater awareness of the opportunities that exist by living and working in Midland can be presented.  Utilizing the website to spotlight downtown events and revitalization creates an outlet to attract a young workforce to Midland while also bringing the ideas of Midland’s young professionals to the forefront.
As the economy continues to ebb and flow the MDC will adapt to the demands and needs of employers making the workforce recruitment program a vital component to the growth of Midland’s workforce.
